Turkey Surprise (aka mom’s turkey casserole aka the best part of holiday leftovers)

Ingredients

3 Tbsp. butter

¼ cup chopped green peppers (about ¼ to ½ of a whole pepper)

3 Tbsp. chopped onion (onion powder can also work, but only use 1 Tbsp)

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup – undiluted

1 cup (8oz) sour cream

2 cups diced cooked turkey (it’s best with a 50/50 mix of light and dark meat)

3 cups slightly undercooked egg noodles (so they don’t get mushy while baking in liquid)

1 can (6oz) french’s crispy fried onions (or get two.  Yeah.  Get 2)

1 cup light cream (optional… but use it.  The casserole can get a little dry without it)

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350°

2. Sauté green pepper and chopped onion in the butter

3. Remove from heat, stir in soup and sour cream

4. Combine mixture with noodles, ½ the can of fried onions, and turkey.

5. Add light cream to achieve desired creaminess  (it will dry out a little as noodles absorb liquid during baking)

6. Place it all in a greased 2 quart casserole (then lick the spoon)

7. Top with the other ½ can of fried onions (or add more.  It’s better with more.  Seriously, add more.  That’s why I said to get 2 cans)

8. Cover and bake for 25 minutes, then remove cover and bake 5 more minutes to crisp up the onion topping.

9. let it rest for about 5-10 minutes, it will be lava.  Then shovel it into your facehole.

Doom Town

Doom Town
- sampled from T.S. Eliot’s "The Hollow Men"

In shadeless color of desert sky,
See the whimper of a dying star
As the mushroom climbs in the distance,
Hollow men observe from afar.

In nuclear wind’s singing,
More distant and more solemn,
Contaminated fire comes
As sunlight on a broken column.

Under a shelter in our dry cellar,
The child showered with shattered glass.
Devised to test destruction,
His purpose served.  Alas!

Behaving as the wind behaves,
Our home destroyed as planned.
Leaning together in such deliberate disguises,
Death in the shell of the plastic man.

Crossing the river to death’s dream kingdom,
Payment lies in doll-black eyes
For the boatman requires tribute—
Two pennies for the dead guy.

We are pledged to the other kingdom,
The gates stand now before us.
Dreams of peace now abandoned,
And all our hope is lost.

For thine is the kingdom—
The wasteland, the dead land—
From the atom falls the Shadow,
This is the way the world ends.
